ADAPT Program Overview

ADAPT (Assisting Developing Adults with Productive Transitions) is one of the transition programs available to students with disabilities in Gwinnett County Public Schools. In order to be eligible for ADAPT, students must have met their diploma requirements at their high school. The ADAPT program supports students in the areas of Functional Life Skills, Vocational/Career, and Community Skills by providing instruction in the following domains: Community Living, Daily Living, Employability, Lifelong Learning, and Personal Life.

Students receive specially designed instruction to meet their educational needs at Buice Center and in the community. ADAPT students receive instruction in the community setting up to four days per week with a focus on employability, community access, and community resources. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics through GCPS. ADAPT students, families, and staff collaborate to help the students meet their educational goals and create a plan for transitioning to post-secondary life before aging out at the age of 22.
