STRIVE (Supported Training and Rehabilitative Instruction in Vocational Education) is one of the transition programs available to students with disabilities in Gwinnett County Public Schools. In order to be eligible for STRIVE, students must have met their diploma requirements at their high school. The STRIVE program supports students in the areas of Vocational and Career by providing instruction in the following areas: Daily Living Skills, Functional Literacy, Functional Math, Job Search Process, Self-Advocacy, Social and Communication Skills, Soft Skills, and Technology.
Students receive specially designed instruction to meet their educational needs in the community vocational setting. Students participate in community based vocational instruction to address needs in the area of employability including job awareness and work skills. STRIVE students are learning skills needed to get and keep a job. STRIVE is 100% community based; students do not receive instruction at Buice Center. STRIVE students, families, and staff collaborate to help the students meet their educational goals and create a plan for transitioning to post-secondary life before aging out at the age of 22.
